Middle East Television is a digital satellite channel located in Limassol, Cyprus. Middle
East Television exists to promote goodwill, hope and peace to all
people throughout the Middle East through entertaining, family
oriented, television programs.
Middle East Television, also known as "METV" began broadcasting
from South Lebanon on April 10, 1982. Since then, METV has broadcast
the finest in family entertainment in order to enrich the lives of the
vast viewing audience. Middle East Television has gained the respect of
millions of people throughout the region. On June 5th, 1997 Middle East
Television launched its 24-hour programming broadcast on
satellite. In addition, METV broadcasts on all cable systems in Israel
as Channel 24. This increased the potential audience from 11 million to
70 million viewers with a signal that is now reaching the entire Middle
East -- from Tehran-Iran in the east, to Benghazi-Libya in the west,
and from Ankara-Turkey in the north, to Aswan in South Egypt (a total
of 15 countries).
In anticipation of the Israeli decision to pull out of Southern
Lebanon, Middle East Television began searching for a new broadcast
facility in May 1999. On May 2nd, 2000 Middle East Television completed
construction of our new station and began its digital broadcast from
the beautiful country of Cyprus.
And now the adventure continues...
LeSEA Broadcasting
has taken a bold step in the Middle East. LeSEA recently learned that
METV was for sale. Answering the call in the spirit of the great
adventurer for Christ, Dr. Lester Sumrall, LeSEA signed an agreement in
April of 2001 to acquire METV and keep it on the air for Christ.
LeSEA Broadcasting has a long history in the Middle
East and an abiding love for its people. Dr Lester Sumrall, LeSEA’s
late founder, began to lead pilgrimages to the Holy Land in the 1960s.
He personally visited Israel more than 100 times. This tradition has
continued, with LeSEA Tours hosting an average of 800 visitors to
Israel each year. For these accomplishments, Israel’s Tourism
Administration has honored LeSEA Tours as an ambassador of
international goodwill. Dr. Lester Frank Sumrall: Feb. 15, 1913 -
Apr.28,1996 "We started with nothing, we had nothing, we returned with
nothing and we desire nothing, but the privilege of proclaiming the
glad news that 'Hallelujah, our Lord God Omnipotent Reigneth!' May the
Lord be magnified in all things."
"ADVENTURER FOR CHRIST" Lester Sumrall was an
adventurer of a different kind. He was a spiritual adventurer,
traveling the world proclaiming God’s love for man. "To me it seems
that the work of the explorer has been triumphantly finished", he
wrote. Our generation is the first with such a marvelous worldwide
scope." He fell in love with Israel when he and his young family lived
in Jerusalem in1956 during the Sinai War. Later, he returned to the
Holy Land , often several times a year, to lead pilgrimages and to
write his many study guides and teachings on the Land of the Bible. Dr.
Sumrall’s missionary zeal also took him to over 100 nations, and he
published more than 100 books. He employed mass media, -radio,
television and publications as "tools" for the harvest. He established
dozens of churches around the world, most of which are still active
today. In 1957, he founded LeSEA (Lester Sumrall Evangelistic
Association) - a ministry which has subsequently given birth to 13
television stations, a satellite television ministry, FM radio stations
and five shortwave radio stations The shortwave radio outreach covers
ninety percent of the world population. LeSEA also operates LeSEA
Global Feed the Hungry a humanitarian relief organization distributing
food to the needy around the world. Today with LeSEA's Middle East
Television, Lester Sumrall's adventure of faith continues under the
direction of his son Peter Sumrall.
